In Indonesia, more than 700 different languages are spoken.
This is not about different dialects, but actually separate languages, some with their own characters.
This diversity of languages could develop as many Indonesian ethnic groups spatially separated
for centuries lived on different islands, and had even formed independent kingdoms.
But do not worry, since 1928 Bahasa Indonesia is regarded as the official language throughout Indonesia.
Most Indonesians are growing up biligually today and learn Bahasa Indonesia along with the their mother tongue. Today 165 million people speak Bahasa Indonesia.
Bahasa Indonesia is relatively easy to learn and the grammar is easy to understand.
However, those who want to learn a foreign language need to work hard and be preserving (or use
Google's translator). But those who take these efforts will be rewarded with completely new insights
into the country and the culture of Indonesia.
